As the City that Never Sleeps gears up for its bi-annual fashion week, which starts on September 4, it can be hard to know who to follow on the gram for IRL sartorially chic updates.
Here are ten American influencers who will make it well worth your time for giving them a follow.
1. Paloma Elsesser @palomija
Why? Gracing the cover of British Vogue, making a fierce appearance at 2019’s Met Gala and posing naked for Glossier’s Body Hero campaign (of which there were billboards all over New York) is no small feat, yet 27-year-old Elsesser makes it look oh-so effortlessly chic. Follow for some serious ‘fashun’ content and updates of her uber-cool set of friends.
2. Margaret Zhang @margaret_zhang
Why? After founding her fashion blog Shine By Three in 2009, Chinese-Australian Zhang, who’s now based in New York, has cemented herself as a firm FROW-fixture at shows such as Balenciaga, Gucci and Louis Vuitton. She’s also been inducted in to Forbes’s 30 under 30 Asia list, as well as TimeOut’s 40 Under 40. Follow her for individual and quirky ensembles.
3. Vanessa Hong @thehautepursuit
Why? Founder of the blog The Haute Pursuit, Hong’s fashion prowess knows no bounds. Her minimalist palette, glowing skin and luminescent hair makes hers the most lustworthy Insta of them all.
4. Brittany Xavier @brittanyxavier
Why? Cartier, Givenchy, Marc Jacobs and YSL are just a handful of the brand partnerships Xavier has tucked under her (very chic) belt, but add to that a feed which regularly features her blunt bob and her legs which seem to go on for days, and you have yourself a sure-proof follow for some seriously chic fashion week content.
5. Imaan Hammam @imaanhammam
Why? Tri-lingual Hammam (she can speak English, Arabic and Dutch) made her fashion week debut at Paris Fashion Week in 2014 and since then has become a runway regular. She’s also been busy gracing Vogue covers left, right and centre. The fact that she remains vocal about political issues she cares about is reason enough for a follow, too.
6. Olivia Perez @livvperez
Why? As a childhood friend of the Gigi and Bella, Perez is no stranger to influence or the fashion world, but she’s using her clout to make a difference with her Friend of a Friend podcast, which aims to introduce listeners to the next generation of luminaries. Add to that her effortless cool-girl style, Perez is one to watch on the New York scene.
7. Jo Rosenthal @justjorosenthal
Why? Living the millennial-New-York-cool-hipster-girl Carrie Bradshaw life, Rosenthal has made her account a melange of inspiring and powerful messages about mental health and loving yourself as well as her laid back, yet also thrown together, fashion aesthetic. Follow for all the best fashion week party content.
8. Kimberly Drew @museummammy
Why? Museum Mammy, a.k.a Kimberly Drew, is a curator of “black art and experiences”, as well as the creator of the uber-cool blog “Black Contemporary Art”. Follow her feed for some seriously fierce lessons in how to clash like a true styleista.
9. Barbie Ferreira @barbieferreira
Why? Ferreira not only plays Kat Hernandez on this summer’s hit show Euphoria, she’s also the ultimate Instagram body positivity poster girl and is tipped to be everywhere at NYFW this season. She’s also signed to the same modelling agency as the Hadids, so we’re expecting even bigger things to come.
10. Reese Blutstein @double3xposure
Why? Blutstein is the OG Accidental Influencer and haphazardly started her Instagram account just for the love of it while studying an art degree at the University of Georgia. In the end she quit her studies and went onto pursue her influencer career full time after she became an overnight sensation. At only 22, she’s the baby of the American cool girls, but proof that nobody puts baby in the corner.
