Rapper linked to shooting investigation on Madison Ave

New York News

UPPER EAST SIDE, Manhattan (WABC) —

No sooner did the crime scene tape come down, restaurant workers were sweeping up any sign of the near brawl that unfolded at the start of Friday’s dinner rush on the Upper East Side.

A rapper named Daniel Hernandez, who goes by the name Tekashi69 or ‘6ix9ine.’ For Hernandez, Friday was a good day. He managed to avoid prison time in his sentencing on a previous conviction for using a child in a sexual performance.

Hernandez was due to meet his manager at the restaurant ‘Philippe’ on 60th and Madison, but the rapper brought a bunch of friends whom the manager had not invited. The rapper left, but his entourage stayed behind – and that is when things got messy.

“These males came back a short time later and struck one of the private security guards over the head with a chair. That security guard produced a licensed handgun, fired two times, striking one of the individuals in the torso,” says NYPD Inspector Kathleen Walsh.

He hit one member of Hernandez’s entourage in the midsection. The others ran on foot, one of them jumped into a cab. The driver then flagged down a police officer.

For hours, police canvassed the area, but in the end, the police tape came down.

Officials say one person was taken away in an ambulance and is in serious, but stable condition.

Hernandez was not injured.
