President Trump on Friday approved $35 million in Tropical Storm Isaias relief for New York — one of his last actions before he checked into the Walter Reed National Military Medical Center in Bethesda, Maryland, for treatment of his COVID-19 infection.
The federal funding will help repair damage caused by the Aug. 4 storm, which hit Long Island particularly hard.
Gov. Andrew Cuomo said he spoke to White House officials, who had informed him that the president had reviewed the state’s request for aide.
“The funding will allow the state and local governments to respond to the need and storm recovery,” Cuomo said in a statement.
“I’m grateful for the Federal assistance and the speedy resolution.”
The funding allocation came through hours after Trump had tested positive for the coronavirus.
“On a personal level, it’s good to hear from the White House that the President was continuing to work today,” Cuomo went on.
“We once again, we wish him and the first lady a speedy recovery and our thoughts are with his family during this difficult time.”
